Here’s a magazine we did find in our real mailbox after Summer break:
For almost 25 years Kwintessens‘s been a ‘quintessential’ magazine about design from Flanders and in their very last printed issue they focus – more then ever – on the social role design can & should fulfill in these most confusing and rapidly changing times. I was offered a spread inside for a ‘visual essay’ about the tragic events in & around our capital on & in the aftermath of the 2nd day of Spring… not exactly your typical children’s book illustrator assignment.
The first thing coming to my mind were slogans we’ve been hearing through all kind of media…
and the image of a country – or a whole continent – at war, combined with extremely wet weather, probably lead me back to WW1 (when a tiny bit of little Belgium was saved by drowning it). (more…)
