In mei, legden wij een ei, voor ‘de moeder aller Belgische energieleveranciers’: onze oude vrienden van Electrabel bestaan namelijk 10 jaar in hun huidige vorm. Binnenin het blad wordt er een vergelijkende studie gemaakt van het energieverbruik vroeger, nu en in de toekomst. Back to the future, ahw., maar probeer mss eerst – zoals vriendelijk verzocht in de rechterbovenhoek – Kito, de energieverslindende hond te vinden op de cover (tip: hij staat bovenop een gebouw).
Ik vond hier nog enkele voorbereidende schetsen voor de cover en blijkbaar ben ik uiteindelijk niet al te ver van het opzet geland. Voelde wel wat vreemd aan, want ik wist dat ik voor één keer niet echt moest ‘mannekes-tekenen’. Uitleggen daarentegen…
Comme je disais en néerlandais, nous avons fait ces images sur commande pour le magazine de ‘la mère des fournisseurs -belges?- d’énérgie’, good ol’ Electrabel qui a 10 ans sous sa forme présente. Cherchez d’abord Kito le chien-mascotte sur la couv. A l’intérieur il y a un dossier de 12 pages sur la consommation d’énergie au passée, aujourd’hui & au futur. Retour au futur!
After postponing this for years, it still took us months to have these images recomposed & printed, and some more weeks to have a sales system installed… but today we can proudly present you a newly featured compartment on this very site: welcome to our miniature (poster) SHOP!

Above’s the little reorganized corner in our house where we’ll handle the shipment with care and below’s the whole roll of images sent to the printers in March: they all returned in tenfold, neatly cut up on glossy photo paper, colorful as summer itself (if I’d dare to say it myself)!
There’s no price-money involved & it’s all just for glory, but this is probably the nicest kind of recognition for every children’s book author around the world: Dirk Nielandt & I won the 1st price at the children’s jury for ‘Fred & de Wolk’, category 6-8 yrs, last weekend in Bruges.
Also nice: Fred (or was it P’tit Robert, ou Georges) will be sharing the holiday-pictures from his journey around the world at on a fine exhibition by the end of this year. More about that & all his other travel-plans after the holidays on fb & this new news-site…
Erg blij -en ook wel fier als een pauw- met deze prijs voor ‘het mooist geïllustreerde boek voor jonge lezers’ die gisteren ging naar… ‘Het leukste ABC ter wereld’. Wij hebben alvast een fijne poster besteld. Meer over het boek en zijn Franse voorouder op de juiste verdieping van de boekenrubriek op deze site.
Nice news from the far east: Chinese editor Maitian ordered (not 1, not 2, not 3, but) 4 Otto-titles at the same time and managed to translate these images full of painted words on cars, trucks, stores etc into Chinese characters in only 3 months. No wonder we will all have to learn Chinese in 1 generation: the calligraphic signs are obviously more interesting then our letters and compared to my ‘slow cooking’, the fast & furious effectiveness of the wok seems unbeatable.
Nice news for me (& all you young -and old- professionals) using this Dutch low-cost-heavy-file-carrier on a nearly daily base: WeTransfer asked me for some seasonal wallpaper during the Xmas holydays and – of course – we ended up in Snowland again with good old Otto.
